Sony to Drop Costly PS3 Cell Processor

Sony is to handing over future processor development to IBM and Toshiba, apparently abandoning the current “Cell” processor sitting at the heart of the PS3. Sony has already sold its stake in Cell manufacturing plants to Toshiba, at a speculated cost of around $860 million.
